General information only

Everything published on this website is general information about Australian migration law. It is not immigration assistance, it is not legal advice, and it is not advice about your circumstances.

Advice about your position follows an assessment of your position. That happens in a consultation, or under a written service agreement, and not on a web page.

Reading this site does not make you our client

No agent-client relationship is created by reading this site, by sending an enquiry, or by receiving a reply to a general question. We act for you when a written service agreement is signed, and not before.

The law changes, and pages age

Migration law changes frequently and sometimes at very short notice. Legislative instruments are remade, ministerial directions are revoked and replaced, occupation lists are amended, and thresholds move.

We date our material and correct it when the law moves. Even so, a page that was accurate when written may not be accurate when you read it. Check the current position before acting on anything here, or ask us.

No outcome is promised

Nothing here is a prediction or a promise about the outcome of any application, assessment or decision, or about how long any of them will take.

A visa is decided by the Department of Home Affairs and, on review, by the Administrative Review Tribunal. Much of what a matter turns on is decided by other bodies entirely: skills assessing authorities, State and Territory nominating bodies, panel physicians and the health assessment service the Department uses, English language test providers, police and character checking agencies, professional registration boards, and education providers. We do not control any of them.

Your circumstances decide your options

Two people with the same occupation, the same qualification and the same test score can have entirely different options, because of immigration history, health, character, family composition, timing, or the visa each currently holds. General information cannot account for any of that.

Downloadable material

Checklists, guides and worksheets are prepared as at the date shown on them, are general information, and are not a substitute for advice. A checklist tells you what is commonly required. It cannot tell you what your matter requires.

Other people's material

Data published by government remains the Commonwealth's. What is ours is the selection, arrangement and expression of it, and the analysis around it. Our Website Terms of Use deal with that.

Your consumer rights

Nothing here excludes, restricts or modifies any right or guarantee under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot lawfully be excluded, restricted or modified.
